Measuring College Learning in Biology: Continuing the Conversation

On March 6-7, 2015 the Measuring College Learning in Biology panel convened for a second time to discuss learning outcomes and assessment for undergraduates in their field. The meeting offered an opportunity to discuss undergraduate education in the field as a whole, and to think about ways to ensure that today’s biology students gain the skills and conceptual understandings they need to be lifelong learners in a rapidly changing field. The meeting also generated feedback and new insights for the Measuring College Learning in Biology white paper, which will be published in early 2016. The group was joined by representatives from the Educational Testing Service and the Institute for Evidence-Based Change, who offered further insight into best practices and innovations related to articulating and assessing field-specific learning outcomes.
