Drug laws and the region’s untenable prison crisis are at the center of the drug policy debate in Latin America and the Caribbean. The incarceration of low-level drug offenders for exceptionally long sentences has left the region’s prisons bursting at the seams; the impact is not only felt by those incarcerated, but also by their families and communities. Rethinking Approaches to Chronic Crises in Africa: American and African Perspectives

The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) and Search for Common Ground (SFCG) in association with Conflict Prevention and Resolution Forum (CPRF), held a conference on “Rethinking Approaches to Chronic Crises in Africa: American and African Perspectives,” at the John Hopkins’ School of Advanced International Studies’ Kenney Auditorium, on March 5, 2020. The conference was organized around two panels featuring leading African scholars and American policy makers, implementers, and development actors.

Media & Democracy at ICA 2019

The Media & Democracy program was thrilled to be at the International Communication Association (ICA) 2019 annual meeting in Washington, DC. As part of the ICA proceedings, we sponsored an ICA theme panel entitled “A Modern History of the Disinformation Age” at the Washington Hilton, held on May 25. The panelists presented research from our December 2018 workshop of the same name. We also co-hosted an SSRC reception on May 28, 2019 at Jack Rose Dining Saloon in collaboration with the Social Data Initiative. National Reengagement Plus! Convening

Co-director Kristen Lewis will speak about Measure of America’s latest disconnected youth research at the Philadelphia Youth Network’s sixth National Reengagement Plus! Convening. The convening is sponsored by the National League of Cities and will focus on strategies to reengage young people disconnected from school and work.
