Congolese Research Network on Peace and Security (ResCongo) – Annual Conference 2019

ResCongo held its second annual conference from 9-10 October 2019, in collaboration with the SSRC’s Understanding Violent Conflict (UVC) program, the University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN), Institut Supérieur Pédagogique de Bukavu (ISP-Bukavu), and the Conflict Research Group (CRG) at Ghent University, at Hôtel Beau Lieu in Bukavu. ResCongo invited members and interested researchers to submit abstracts, draft papers, and present their work through a call for proposals. The 2018-2020 cohort of the Social Science Research Council’s (SSRC) China-Africa Peace Fellowship met for a second time for a research and writing workshop in New York. On December 6–7, a planning workshop of the Transregional Collaboratory on the Indian Ocean took place in Beirut, Lebanon, hosted by our partners at the Arab Council for the Social Sciences. The workshop brought together eight regional experts representing institutions across Africa, Asia, the US, and the UK, and the disciplines of history, economics, anthropology, sociology, geography, and political science. On 13-14 November 2019, UVC Director Tatiana Carayannis and Senior Program Manager Aaron Pangburn participated in the Annual Meeting of the Effectiveness of Peace Operations Network (EPON). The first day served as an opportunity to report on network activities, tweak the common methodology for the research studies, and brainstorm potential new missions for 2020 site visits.
